FOUNDER  Michael Colter

Letter from Michael

I am the founder of Making A Generation Imagine Change (MAGIC).  I have an amazing wife and I am also a proud father of three daughters and one son.  By faith I started MAGIC, but I fully believe that faith not accompanied by action is dead.  I had to step out of my comfort zone and put action to this vision of happening our youth.  My educational background is in engineering where I have Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of North Texas and a Masters of Science in Manufacturing Systems from Southern Methodist University. My career has literally taken me around the world.  MAGIC started as a concept in my mind back in 2012.  I was working as an engineer for a major corporation as well as working for a local tutoring organization in California.  What I noticed during the tutoring sessions is that the young men wanted and needed more than just tutoring help with their math.  They wanted to understand why math is important, career options they should consider, to talk about sport activities they were involved in. The young men wanted to talk about life. So in 2014 I decided to officially birth MAGIC as non-profit organization.

My faith is rooted Christianity and it is what drives me to make sure MAGIC is a service that is rooted in helping.  My goal is take young men and expose them to opportunities they will not hear about at school and in some cases they may not be exposed to in their home life. I want young men to take ownership of their life and their choices and MAGIC can help facilitate that type of thinking.

Throughout my life I have been "tutored" by people like my father who taught me that true manhood is based on ‘doing what you say you will do’.  To coaches who took interest in me beyond my athletic ability, to national organizations such as NSBE who exposed me to opportunities with engineering that I never imagined.  I have been giving a lot throughout my life and I plan on utilizing MAGIC as a vehicle to help give that knowledge back.
